Joining Global Leaders to Support Climate-Smart Innovation
Last fall, Pivot Bio joined the Agriculture Innovation Mission (AIM) for Climate as an Innovation Sprint Partner, committing at least $291 million in product development funding over four years to accelerate the adoption of climate-resilient microbial nitrogen fertilizers, and this week, I participated in the first AIM for Climate Summit in Washington, D.C.
AIM for Climate seeks to address climate change and global hunger by increasing and accelerating support for climate-smart agricultural innovation. Since the initiative’s launch in 2021, AIM for Climate has more than doubled the investment in climate-smart agriculture and food systems innovation to $8 billion and more than tripled the number of partners to more than 275 worldwide.
It was an honor to join policy makers, industry leaders, producers, civil society groups and scientists from across the globe this week to amplify our collective work in climate-smart agriculture and food systems innovation.
During the Summit, I recognized the critical role smallholder farmers play in global farming and food security during a panel discussion, “A Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils in Africa,” where I noted that for many smallholder farmers in the southern hemisphere, limited access to nitrogen is reducing yields and impacting incomes and food security. I also highlighted Pivot Bio’s work in new international markets, including Kenya, to better understand how we can adapt to meet the needs of smallholder farmers and integrate into local supply chains.
Pivot Bio is joining several non-government AIM for Climate Innovation Sprint Partners leading initiatives across four focus areas – Smallholder Farmers in Low- and Middle-Income Countries; Methane Reduction; Emerging Technologies; and Agroecological Research – to achieve specific goals for agricultural innovation.
We’re committed to delivering climate action that ensures agricultural productivity growth and are on the path to serving millions of smallholders with accessible, available and affordable microbial nitrogen. Ending our dependence on synthetic fertilizer, improving farmer margins, providing a more reliable supply of nitrogen and reducing environmental impact is essential to our AIM for Climate commitment.
